Types Of Leased Lines
There are lots of different options when it comes to choosing the type of connection.
The cheapest type of connection is Ethernet First Mile (EFM) which typically delivers a dedicated speed of around 10Mbs. An EFM circuit is a copper presentation and can usually be delivered over any existing copper connectivity that is present on the property.
This is ideal for a small office type setup and this type of connection is an uncontended service. Uncontended means that the speed is the same both up and down, as well as not becoming slow when other people in your local area are also online.
FTTC is typically advertised as superfast broadband and is the most popular type of high-speed connectivity. FTTC stand for Fibre to the Cabinet which means that the fibre connection is terminated in the green box that is found on most UK streets.
From the green box to the premises, the last part of the connection is delivered over the traditional copper.
EoFTTC stands for Ethernet Over Fibre to the Cabinet. More recent advances in technology mean that it is possible to pass leased line services over a traditional broadband service.
This makes EoFTTC the ideal choice for remote offices or small branch office locations.
Fibre is usually what people mean when they talk about a dedicated connectivity. Typically a fibre based leased line will operate at speeds anywhere from 10Mb to 10Gb depending on your business needs and budget.
We can supply fibre connectivity from all of the major UK and international providers.
Wireless Leased Line
When thinking about dedicated connectivity wireless leased lines are fast becoming the norm. A wireless connection can operate at speeds from 10Mb right the way up to 2Gb and doesn’t have many of the downsides of fibre connectivity.
The biggest issue with fibre is the install time and the potential for high installation charges. Wireless connectivity can typically be delivered within 30days and in most circumstances performs better than the fibre equivalent.
